Crispy THC Fried Chicken: Oh, Yes!

Tasty, crispy and will leave you buzzin’

Fried chicken is a staple part of many people’s diets. Famed for its crispy, moreish, mouth-wateringly tasty appeal – it’s long been one of our favorite things to cook from scratch. But – what if you could add a cannabis twist to your chicken that would have your guests begging you for the recipe?

If you’re already sat up, pen-in-hand ready to take notes, then great – as today we are going to be sharing with you our tastiest fried chicken recipe yet, and one that will have you buzzing for hours afterward!

The Recipe: What You Need to Know

This isn’t just tasty; it goes above and beyond what you have come to know and love in fried chicken to leave you craving more. And, spoiler alert – the recipe just gets better and better every time we cook it!

If you love super crispy homemade fried chicken, then we think this will be right up your street. We are big advocates of cannabis – so we had to incorporate a little twist, but if you love chicken but don’t fancy the high, you could leave it out, but, why would you want to?!

We found this recipe on All Recipes but had to try it with some added THC.

A Little Disclaimer About Edibles

We don’t want to put a dampener on what is sure to be your new favorite culinary experience, but we want to share a few things about cannabis edibles for those who are new or unfamiliar with them.

For many, combining cannabis with food or drink has proven to be a healthier alternative to smoking weed in a joint or bong. It can be particularly beneficial if you have asthma, COPD, or are an elderly patient. However – it is important to note that cannabis doesn’t work precisely the same way when consumed as it does when its inhaled.

Let us explain briefly. When we smoke weed, we tend to feel the effects almost instantly, certainly within a few minutes – and this usually serves as an excellent guide to how much you should have at any one time to avoid an unnecessary unpleasant experience.

When we consume cannabis through edibles, however, it first must go through our digestive system before the effects can take place, and this is where many newbies can go wrong. We want to make it clear that if results aren’t felt within a few minutes, or even as much as 30 minutes – don’t worry, this is normal. A standard error people make is to assume the weed hasn’t had an effect, and so they will consume more and more edibles. This is all well and good at the time, but indulging in this way will almost certainly have unwanted and unpleasant effects once the THC kicks in.

So – have fun with edibles, enjoy and indulge in our delicious canna-fried chicken recipe, but please remember that the high come slowly with this type of consumption method, so patience is vital!

Okay Enough of That, Let’s Get Cooking!

For this recipe, you are going to need some of that fabulous cannabis oil. We have shared the recipe before, but if you missed it – here it is again.

Making Cannabis Oil

What You Will Need

  • 1-1 ½ ounces of finely ground weed, trim or buds
  • 28 ounces of oil

Making Cannabis Oil: How to Make It

  1. Boil your oil in the saucepan on a low to medium heat. Make sure it doesn’t burn as this will make for an unpleasant taste.
  2. Once hot, drop in the 1-1 ½ ounces of weed and stir, stir, stir. It shouldn’t get too hot, so the continuous movement is essential!
  3. Let it slow cook for about 1.5-2 hours.
  4. Pour the mixture through a cheesecloth into a jar.
  5. Store in the fridge and you’re done!

The Ingredients for the Fried Chicken:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons garlic salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups beer or water
  • 1/2 quart vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 quart canna oil
  • 1 (3 pounds) whole chicken, cut into pieces

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

For the first step, you are going to need two separate bowls, as you are going to be mixing different ingredients. In one bowl, mix 3 cups of flour, garlic salt, 1-tablespoon of black pepper, paprika, and poultry seasoning.

In the other bowl, mix 1 1/3 cups flour, salt, 1/4-teaspoon of pepper, egg yolks and beer. If the batter comes out too thick, go in and add some additional beer.

Step 2

Heat the oil in a deep fryer to 350˚F. Moisten each piece of chicken with a little water, then dip in the dry mix. Shake off excess and dip in the wet mix, then dip in the dry mix once more. You are kind of going back and forth – first to get it tender, and then to make the mixture stick.

Step 3

Place the chicken in the oil and canna-oil combination and fry for around 18 minutes or until browned. Once you’ve removed the chicken from the stove, place on a paper towel to absorb the excess oil.

And that’s it – you’re done!

Crispy THC Fried Chicken Accompaniment Suggestions

You can quite easily go to town on this delicious fried chicken all by itself, but if you’re looking to make it more of a meal – or include it as part of a buffet – then here are some of our favorite things to accompany it with.

Ranch sauce

Who doesn’t love a smothering of ranch on their favorite dish? One of the most versatile sauces out there, and one that goes so well with this fried chicken recipe, we suggest decanting some into a pot and using it as a dip or even a dressing to go over the chicken!

Side Salad

Whether you add it just for the décor (or Instagram pics!), a fresh side salad can compliment the heavy batter and flavor-packed chicken nicely. Add a nice salad; even add your ranch dressing to the salad – perfect summer lunch!

Fries (Obviously)

If you’re going full on binge-mode, then adding fries – pre-bought or homemade – can make you feel like you’re having a take out, but really it’s all your own craftsmanship!

Fries are a match made in heaven for crispy fried chicken, so it would have been rude not to include it here!

Sounds absolutely delicious and easy to make. I get all of my recipes from All Recipes, they have the best and easiest recipes! I definitely agree that being asthmatic makes it hard to smoke marijuana at times. Edibles are a great alternative but as with anything, a little at a time until you know your intake threshold.

    Goodness of Chicken

Crispy THC chicken fry is a great recipe for non vegetarians. If you have a vegetarian in your family by chance, make him try this, and I am sure he would be ready to convert. That is the goodness of this chicken. AN absolute fan, I cook this almost once every week for sure.

It is a great recipe. Hopefully, one day when the restrictions are reduced, we can imagine downtown restaurants serving this as part of their menus. A great cook at home recipe till then!

Hi how does frying it not deactivate or burn off all of the THC? Oil gets to around 350 or so when heated to frying temps and I thought THC shouldn’t get above 250?
