5 Reasons Why Cannabis and Women are a Match Made in Heaven

Cannabis has been around for longer than all of us and dates back hundreds of thousands of years, and over this time we have seen a significant association between cannabis and men! Over recent years, however, there have been some really big female players throughout the marijuana industry, which has changed the game a lot – and so it should!

But when it comes to enjoying a joint, could it be possible that women benefit MORE than men? After all these years of gender stereotyping, we want to explain our top FIVE reasons for why, actually, cannabis and women are a match made in heaven.

#1 Women in the Marijuana Business

As we briefly touched upon in the intro, women have started to dominate the marijuana industry in a big way, and we love it! Women now hold a higher percentage of senior roles across the industry than men. Now THAT is some real girl power!

According to Marijuana Business Daily, women hold a fantastic 36% of all executive roles within the cannabis market, which is a big deal for women and cannabis! With the dated view that only men should enjoy smoking weed as well as being the only sex to benefit professionally, this stat is a real forward stride for the industry.

We have organizations such as Women Grow, started up in 2014 by women FOR women in the cannabis industry. This non-profit has only grown since then and continues to inspire women to step into the industry with confidence.

A lot is going on in the business world for women and weed; with the Women’s Cannabis Chamber of Commerce providing the necessary tools and education to sustain cannabis businesses, there are only good things to come for women in the professional weed world!

#2 Natural Female Aphrodisiac

It’s not just business, but pleasure as well for women when it comes to enjoying and benefiting from cannabis. There have been hundreds of articles written around the topic of weed and sex, and the results are in – marijuana and sex go together perfectly!

Sex is an important part of many women’s lives, and having a fantastic time between the sheets can be beneficial to both physical and mental health, promoting healthy relationships. With all the toys and products available that can be introduced in the bedroom, it might come as a surprise that amongst one of the most popular is cannabis!

A study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine revealed that not only does weed improve sex, but that people who smoke weed enjoyed 20% more sex than those who didn’t indulge in the bud!

It seems that, for women, pot can open up a world of enhanced sensations, increased confidence, and feeling of sexual liberation; so much so that the cannabis industry has sat up and taken notice with products now being available specifically driven towards sexual women who enjoy weed!

While it is true that both men and women can both benefit sexually from cannabis, we are starting to understand that, when it comes to which sex wins, it is the woman who comes out on top!

#3 Postpartum Depression

Approximately 600,000 women suffer from postpartum depression across the U.S. every single year. This debilitating condition can vary in the way it presents itself and can be incredibly difficult to diagnose in the beginning. Common symptoms of PPD include extreme sadness, low energy, emotional episodes, crying, anger, anxiety, stress, and difficulty eating and sleeping.

Over the years, there has been considerable evidence which suggests that cannabis could help relieve some of the most common symptoms associated with depression, which is, of course, one of the critical side effects of postpartum depression. Alongside this is cannabis’ proposed potential to insomnia, eating disorders and anxiety, which can also be attributed to PPD.

With an array of potential benefits, specialists are now suggesting that high CBD strains of cannabis could be of great use to women suffering from PPD. Interestingly, Dr. Samir Haj – Dahmane from Buffalo’s Institute on Addictions suggested that chronic stress symptoms such as those associated with PPD can reduce the production of endocannabinoids, which we know from research can make conditions such as depression considerably worse.

With the research into how CBD and THC benefit our endocannabinoid system, it only stands to reason that women should be reaching for weed to help relieve their symptoms of postpartum depression.

#4 Mother Nature

Every woman is probably familiar with the “time of the month” that brings on an onslaught of unpleasant and often incredibly debilitating symptoms. PMS, or as it is formally known, premenstrual syndrome, is a monthly occurrence that can range from mild to extremely severe, and usually has both a physical and mental impact.

While some women can go their entire lives with only mild periods and bearable symptoms, many suffer greatly and require medication to help deal with the side effects. Common PMS symptoms include feeling very low in mood, lethargy, feelings of exhaustion, cramping, headaches, weight gain, acne, tender breasts, and irritability.

Due to marijuana’s ability to boost mood and relieve pain, we have seen more and more women reaching for cannabis during that time of the month!

THC, which is the compound in cannabis responsible for the high we all know and love, has been shown to have the ability to relieve nausea, bloating and headaches, which are all associated with aunt Flo!

In 2018, you can get your hands on a shed load of products catered explicitly towards women suffering from those monthly cramps, with an all natural alternative to things such as Midol, it’s no wonder more women than ever are opting for a bit of green!

#5 Women Can Get High QUICKER?!

Rumour has it that women can benefit from the THC in cannabis much faster than men, therefore making them the perfect client for a long smoking session. If this theory stands up, then not only can women benefit from all the wonderful things cannabis brings to the table, but it means their stash lasts way longer!

A groundbreaking study done at Washington State University looked at the effects of cannabis on both male and female rats, and the results were pretty telling! Over the course of 10 days, both sexes of rat were treated with THC to relieve pain, and the results of this showed that the female subjects showed significantly lessened tolerance to the cannabinoid than the males.

The study ultimately showed that women had a much greater sensitivity to the psychoactive compound within marijuana, which is excellent news for those who love a smoke but don’t want to spend hours at it (or spend loads of money!)

However, it goes without saying that for those prone to anxiety and paranoia smoking weed should be approached carefully, as effects could go both ways if you are easily susceptible to a high!

Final Thoughts on the Topic

Ultimately, cannabis is not gender-biased and should be enjoyed by both males and females! However, as times progress and cannabis slowly becomes more widely accepted, we can’t help but celebrate the fact that marijuana is being enjoyed by women the world over!
