CBD Oil In Indiana [Recent Update]

Over the past 12 months or so, the legalities around CBD oil in Indiana have left residents of the state utterly confused as to what is and isn’t legal. With policymakers having a hard time agreeing on CBD’s legal status it has been big news for the marijuana industry.

On 21st March 2018, Senate Bill 52 was signed, making CBD oil more obtainable for all residents of the state – which is great news for Indiana residents as the debate is finally coming to an end.

In this article, we will take a look at what CBD is, and what the newest laws mean for residents of Indiana.

What Is CBD Oil in Indiana?

Cannabidiol is the non-psychoactive cannabinoid found within marijuana. While THC shot the plant to fame for its potent psychoactive properties, CBD is now the most sought-after compound for its massive therapeutic benefits.

CBD can be obtained in a few forms; from capsules to oils it is one of the most desired treatments for its all-natural solution to conditions such as the following:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD
  • AIDS/HIV
  • Diabetes
  • Chron’s Disease
  • Depression
  • Epilepsy
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Glaucoma
  • Cancer
  • Anorexia

Extensive research into CBD along with other cannabinoids has revealed that it packs some pretty valid medicinal properties, which makes it the ideal solution for those seeking a less harmful treatment than conventional meds. While most traditional medications come with a list of unpleasant and often serious side effects – not to mention highly addictive qualities – CBD remains risk-free. Also, CBD’s properties are incredibly versatile; the following are just some of the main attributes of the compound:

  • Anti-Anxiety
  • Anti-Depressant
  • Anti-Oxidant
  • Anti-Inflammatory
  • Anti-Psychotic
  • Anti-carcinogenic

How Does the CBD Oil in Indiana Work?

With such an impressive portfolio of qualities, it is no wonder that so many states are now making the cannabinoid legal for the treatment of a variety of conditions. But how does CBD work with our bodies to get such impressive results?

Well, it comes down to what’s called the endocannabinoid system. Each of us has an endocannabinoid system (ECS), which actually controls homeostasis of the body. This basically means it is in charge of the regulation of many bodily functions, from how we feel emotion and pain, to our core body temperature. At the root of our internal bodily system functions and cell-to-cell communications, the ECS has a hand in almost everything.

When we consume CBD, it interacts with our ECS to help it produce an increase in the natural cannabinoids that work to heal us. So while THC binds with CB1 receptors located in the brain (hence the high!), CBD is working hard to boost out natural healing cannabinoids.

It is for this reason that CBD has the power to make a positive impact on such a varied list of conditions, and why it is now legal (as long as it is derived from hemp) in all 50 states.

So, over the past couple of months, there has been an increase in discussions around CBD oil in Indiana. Before this, the state allowed CBD oil from hemp to be consumed, as long as it contained THC levels below 0.3%. However, for medicinal CBD from marijuana, it was only permitted to those with treatment-resistant epilepsy.

If we fast-forward to March 21st, 2018, though, things have finally become a little clearer. Governor Eric Holcomb signed off on Senate Bill 52, which authorizes retailers to sell independently-certified “low THC hemp products” for adults. Not only this, but the new law also allows these products to be derived from (or contain) any part of the Cannabis sativa L plant that meets the definition of industrial hemp.

The state outlines that the CBD oil must be lab certified to possess no more than 0.3% THC (anything above this level is considered marijuana and not hemp), and must contain no other controlled substances.

While this new law does not come into place until the 1st of July (2018), it is certainly much welcomed news for residents of the state with conditions other than epilepsy.

Final Thoughts About CBD oil in Indiana

It is an excellent time for Indiana Hoosiers who have been waiting for CBD laws to become more flexible. With so much research into CBD for the treatment of so many serious and common conditions, it is no wonder that Indiana finally changed their law to allow for better patient access to the drug.

We hope in the future laws will become even more free for the use of marijuana, but for now, if you’re looking for CBD oil in Indiana, at least things are looking on the bright side.
