cbd dosage

With so many CBD Oil brands on the market, it is often extremely hard to know which ones are best and more importantly, how much CBD should you take. What is the correct dosage?

In this guide, we’ve got the dosage topic covered but you should always consult with your doctor before beginning any form of treatment. CBD-rich oil comes in a variety of concentrations and forms, and while most bottles come with a user manual, CBD oil works differently for each person. If you’ve never tried CBD or you are still trying to figure out what works best for you, then continue reading as there are a few important things to understand about CBD oil and CBD oil dosages.

Important Things to Know About CBD Oil Dosages

1) Every Person is Different and May Require a Different Dosage

If you’ve been following the articles on our site, then you have probably heard of the endocannabinoid system. This is a unique system in our body that’s responsible for improving and maintaining our mental and physical health. CBD is believed to help regulate that system by binding with various receptors located within cell and tissue systems. Those receptors are referred to as CB1 and CB2.

The endocannabinoid system is extremely complex and far from understood, leaving researchers trying to determine whether or not the CBD directly or indirectly effects those receptors, and exactly what role they play in affecting ones’ health.

While the exact way they effect our system still remains a mystery to most researchers, what we do know is that every person has a different endocannabinoid system, and therefore while the instructions on a CBD oils’ bottle may be informative and clear, the standard dosing may affect two different people in completely different ways.

2) Genetics, Tolerance and General Health

If you accept the fact that everyone is different, then you can understand that everyone has his/her own genetics, tolerance, and general health. There are those that suffer from severe debilitating conditions and others that are only looking to cure their day to day anxiety. Each person has their own reasons for wanting to take CBD oil, and it’s assumed that all of these factors – genetics, tolerance and general health – will come into play as far as how well CBD works for them. It cannot be expected that someone who is in the prime of their game, from a health perspective, will require the same dosage as someone who has severe medical issues.

3) It’s Not a Miracle Cure

Regardless of whether the right dosage of CBD will work for your body or not, it’s important to understand that CBD oil is not a miracle cure. Don’t expect to take a few drops and, Voilà, you’re cured. The effects of CBD oil are not instant, and people constantly make the same mistake – they use CBD for a short period, expecting it to cure them instantly, and when it doesn’t work they complain and ask for a refund. CBD can take time to work and similar to your health issues, it won’t happen overnight. The key is finding the right dosage.

The Standard CBD Oil Dosage Manual

Now, remember, this guide is a general one, and it is extremely important to read the dosage instructions on the CBD oil you are taking, especially as results from certain dosages may affect you differently then others. Furthermore, it is always best to contact the CBD oil company to ask them the right dosage for your medical condition and consult with your doctor if required. With that said, there are a few common dosage strategies that might work for you:

  1. Start by taking one drop on the first day. It’s important to see how you feel as everyone reacts differently. It may even cause you irritation, and therefore it’s important to stop.
  2. If all goes well, increase the amount to 2 drops per day for the first 3-4 weeks. This is the testing period to see if it is helping any of your symptoms.
  3. Spread the drops throughout the day. For example, take one in the morning and one in the evening.
  4. If you don’t experience any change, then increase at a slow rate and see how you feel. With each person, it is a question of finding the right dosage.

Remember that many CBD oil companies advise you to put the drops under your tongue and let them take effect for at least 30 seconds.

Numerous sites state the following dosage guidelines when using CBD orally:

  • General Health: 2.5-15mg CBD
  • Chronic pain: 2.5-20 mg CBD
  • Sleep disorders: 40-160 mg CBD

CBD Oil Dosage Recap

If you are just starting out with CBD oil, then remember to start small and to consult with your doctor. According to ProjectCBD, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to making CBD research transparent, there is no established lethal CBD dose. Therefore be cautious and as with any new health products, it’s important to know how your body reacts to CBD. Increase the dosage gradually and if you feel that the CBD oil isn’t affecting you in a positive way, then you should stop and consult with a medical professional. Also, another factor is, whatever drops you start with, wait at least 3 to 5 days before you increase or decrease it. Sometimes the initial symptoms automatically go away as the body adjusts and sometimes it is that the dose which seems too low starts showing it effect a few days latr as the body starts responding to it. Ans do not worry, if you get an initial 1 or 2 blisters, they will go away with time and then not show up again in most of the cases.

      Question from Reading Another Comment

One reviewer was talking about staying on the same daose of drops for the first 3-4 days while your body adjusts to it. (That sounds like good advice) Then near the end they also said if you get 2 or 3 blisters don’t worry about it they usually go away in a few days. What is that about? Blisters where? In you mouth? Just popping up on your skin? Can anyone help me know what this reviewer was talking about? Thanks

    Help w dosing

I am not sure how to use this oil. My bottle says this – 600mg. Under that 30 ml. It has a dropper in the cap. Hard to measure in drops. It comes out very easily. I want it for sleeping. I weigh about 230. Not sure how much to take. Place says it’s a 30 day supply. Can’t be. Looking for good info. Thank you

I’m on oxycodone 15 mg 4 times a day, I have arthritis, spinal stinosis, degenerative disc disease, neropothy, fibermialgia, and others pain issues. I would like to find an alternative to get off of the meds. Any help is appreciated

      Spinal Stenosis & Sciatica

I read your comment and have the same diagnosis. I am in a smaller dose of oxy than you but close. I am taking Charlottes Web CBD Hemp oil under tongue 3xday. It has helped a lot and taken the horrible pinching and stabbing pain in my hip and down my leg to a much lower level. This is after using for one week. Im going by directions on label and will increase dosage in several weeks. I would try if I were you. There are so few options with this nightmare of a diagnosis. A year ago I played team tennis and was in excellent shape. Had an MRI for lumbar pain and the rest is history. Hope this info helps you some. I give it a big thumbs up!

CBD and Serotonin, how long before it works

I am taking 5% CBD for anxiety and depression and not sure what is the correct dose, I started off taking 3 x 3 drops a day, paced throughout the day, it made me very sleepy and I’ve now cut back to 3 x 2 drops.

I am very interested in the claims that CBD affects Serotonin receptors – is it correct to assume that a beneficial effect would take at least two weeks – about the same as an SSRI? Or does CBD work in a different way with immediate effect?

I haven’t been able to find an article that mentions this and it would be great if someone can give me some information.

What the hell is up with the MGS ?

I am an Old american. I know about teaspoons ,but I don’t know a damn thing about MGS . Why in hell does everything these days have to be in MGS? What in hell happened to teaspoon measuring. Whats the dosage of CBD oil in Teaspoons for depression

    1. Joanna
      Measurement Questions answered

It’s in milligrams because you take it in drops. Try 1-2 drops at first. After a few days, add a drop or two more until you feel like its helping. Or in teaspoon measurements, take 1/8 or 1/16 of a teaspoon of oil.

Each bottle will say on the back of the bottle how many milligrams per drop. 2.5 mg usually starts out.
The bottle may say 500mg. But that’s the total dosage contained in the whole bottle.
