Today, there are hundreds of companies that provide bongs for sale. Although they are a relatively recent phenomenon in the West, bongs have been used in other cultures for centuries. In Africa, for example, archaeologists have discovered smoking pipes made of bamboo, horns, and earthenware dating from the 13th century. Throughout the Middle Ages, the bamboo bong gained prominence in Asia and spread from Thailand to China.
Bongs finally made their way to Europe in the 18th century, and reached America by the 19th century. However, glass bongs only came to prominence in the 1970s with the growth of the glassblowing movement. It was around this time that the first patent for a glass bong was filed in the United States. Today, glassblowing artists are in hot demand as the humble bong is now one of the most coveted items amongst weed purists.
You don’t know a great deal about bong use if you think there is only one kind! The shape, size, and height of a bong impact its ability to pull smoke through the water chamber and into the tube (and eventually into your lungs). Moreover, the diameter of the bowl and stem also dictate the flow of smoke and air.
Some popular bong types include:
- Percolator Bongs: This type of bong uses a glass filter suspended into the water chamber. The filter is responsible for breaking up and spreading out the bubbles evenly by ensuring the smoke is circulated through the water. The result is the creation of tiny bubbles which are excellent at filtering toxic substances, while also cooling the smoke.
- Bubbler Bongs: This glass weed bong is a bong and pipe hybrid. It is a portable option that is horizontal and includes a drop-down water chamber that cools and filters the smoke. When using a bubbler, be careful not to pull too hard or else you will swallow the water.
- Mini Bongs: When you want cheap bongs, the portable mini bong is probably the right option for you. You can find minis that are just six inches in height and several are available for under $60. Most mini bongs rely on a carb system and because of the lower price, they tend to be made from thinner glass which is easier to break.
- Scientific Bongs: This is the name given to laboratory-grade borosilicate glass bongs. These are more expensive devices because they are stronger with increased resistance to heat. The design can range from a simple straight tube to a complex bong with ash catchers, uniquely crafted percolators, and bent mouthpieces.
Who Would Want a Bong?
In general, bongs are for serious weed users because they are larger and more expensive than other smoking devices. Collectors are often willing to pay good money for uniquely designed pieces, such as those produced by JP Toro.
It is also a fact that some users believe their bong choice is a reflection of their personality, which means selecting one is a personal – if not critical – choice! (And believe it or not, some dedicated bong owners actually give ‘pet names’ to their devices.)
If you enjoy weed and are prepared to pay a little extra for a smoother and higher quality smoking session, then a bong is no doubt a worthy investment. A device like a Roor bong is likely to enhance the potency of your dry herbs, and also make the whole process of inhalation more efficient, and perhaps even healthier. In other words, a bong can help you get more from less.
If you’re new to the world of bongs, it may be worth trying an affordable wooden or acrylic one before going full-bore and dropping serious cash on a high-end glass piece. However, while they cost significantly less than glass, bongs made from cheaper materials are harder to clean and many say that they negatively impact the flavor of the herb. 1 – Black Leaf Bongs
When you buy Black Leaf bongs, you’re investing in German efficiency. Although the company’s range is eminently affordable, they are also solidly constructed while being easy to use and store. The company was founded as a branch of Near Dark, which is a globally famous distributor owned by figurehead Ernst Meerbeck. He created the Black Leaf range to cash in on the growing glass bong production industry.
Our Black Leaf bongs review will focus on its Beaker Base 6 – Arm Perc Bong, which is an extremely affordable piece at just $84.99. It is about 15 inches high, and the design is crisp and clean. However, don’t allow its simplicity to fool you; it helps you embark on some of the best sessions you’re likely to have compared with other pieces in the price range.
It is an excellent option if you currently use a bong with no percolation, because it offers an entirely different experience. It enables you to take long and smooth hits and the tree perc allows for outstanding diffusion. Moreover, the splash guard on top is a necessary addition because it prevents water from splashing into your mouth – an inevitable (yet hated) “side effect” that all bong users have experienced at one point or another.
One downside is that this Black Leaf bong is mainly for experienced users, because you need to understand the water levels if you want best results. It will take a bit of getting used to, which can be super frustrating for neophytes. (For the record, I had the best sessions when the water in the base was just a little below the down stem separation. The water in the chamber needs to be slightly above the final slit at the top of the tree perc arms, in order to achieve optimal efficiency).
You’ll need salt and alcohol to clean the bong, but the presence of several chambers means this isn’t exactly an easy task. Remember, you have to get the resin out of every single chamber (and the base) when cleaning the bong. I found it best to clean the base first before moving onto the chambers.
When you empty the bong water, you will notice that there is still a little bit of water left in the chambers. Turn your bong upside down as many times as you need to drain the water completely. Then, pour salt into the base and a large amount of salt into the top to ensure it gets to all the chambers. Next, add some isopropyl alcohol through the top and base, and shake the bong. Dump all of the dirty water out, and remember — you’ll have to work a bit to get rid of the water in the chambers.
You can buy Black Leaf bongs online and choose between their cylinder water pipes and beaker bongs. Most of the company’s designs are easier to clean than the Beaker Base 6, with the simpler ones ensuring that it’s less of a headache to keep your piece looking neat and tidy. While Black Leaf bongs are arguably best for moderate users, experienced smokers will find a lot to like about the brand’s large range.
2 – Blaze Glass
When you purchase a Blaze Glass bong, you are buying a quality piece of work made from premium-grade stress-relieved 3.1 borosilicate glass. The company claims that their glass is comparable to the Duran Glass used by industrial lab pieces like beakers and Erlenmeyer flasks. Each piece has a minimum thickness of 5mm and uses a ground glass joint of 14.5mm or 18mm. Blaze is part of a larger brand (Near Dark) that has been one of the world’s leading providers of headshop equipment for over 20 years.
Although the firm is part of the German Near Dark brand, all of its water pipes are made in Asia by specialist glass blowers. Every Blaze Glass bong’s design is aided by detailed study of geometry, and the team has worked hard to find out the aspects of bong design that are most impactful on performance. As a result, you should experience exceptional flavor with every hit.
Moreover, Blaze Glass is adamant that all cracked bongs belong in the bin, which is why it leaves no stone unturned to guarantee an unmatched level of craftsmanship.
While you can mix and match with Blaze Glass, I would prefer to focus on the multi-level microscope bong. It is 13.8 inches high and uses a fixed downstem with a 14.5mm male joint. It also comes with a removable 14.mm female herb bowl, which is a perfect fit for the male joint. This bowl is extremely thick and the glass marble on the side prevents unwanted crumbs and ash from making their way into the water.
The quad rocket diffused percolator filters the smoke through its slits, and is located in the bong’s lower chamber. When you light up, the smoke will travel through the connecting tube, into the neck of the bong, and then through the slits of the percolator (which also acts as a splashguard). As a result of this design, you benefit from a smooth yet flavorful hit as your smoke is supercooled and filtered by the time it reaches your lips.
The microscope bong has an exceedingly thick base, which is great for stability. I also thoroughly enjoyed using the mouthpiece, as it has pushed glass (called marias) on its underside which ensures you have a good grip of the device. As well as having a practical use, the grip also looks stunning.
Blaze Glass is no doubt one of the top bong makers in the industry. Most of its products are extremely customizable, such as the Ice Bong (with its Spiral Percolators), so you can tweak your piece until you find that perfect arrangement that suits you best. The brand’s microscope bong is a fabulously designed piece that will look awesome in any collection, and more importantly, it provides you with filtered hits that you can enjoy for years on end.
3 – EHLE Glass
Germany is known for a lot of great things, but few people realize just how much of an impact the country has had on the world of bong production. The EHLE brand was formed back in the 1950s, and has been creating high-quality glass instruments for over 60 years. Thomas Ehle took over the family business in 1988, and quickly shifted focus onto the high-grade glass bongs and water pipes market from the more “mainstream” creations that they had been developing over previous years .
The brand is known for its elegant designs as much as it is for the durability of its bongs. EHLE Glass bongs are made with advanced glassmaking techniques (such as computer-controlled cooling and tempering processes), while also using premium level borosilicate glass. To ensure the brand keeps its standards high, it produces its bong and pipes in low volume, and despite the huge demand for a limited supply, the company manages to keep its prices somewhat competitive.
Its glass straight cylinder bong (250 mL) is a prime example of EHLE’s superior quality – it is 12.5 inches high with a joint size of 18.8mm, and should be available for under $100 online. To be frank, pictures of this bong don’t do it justice. You have to hold it in your hand to fully appreciate the quality of craftsmanship that goes into each piece.
This particular bong includes the famous EHLE glass signature, which is a logo with an orange outline. Accessories include a non-diffuser downstem and a funnel-shaped bowl, which is all you need to start smoking! It offers smooth and luxurious hits with the kind of flavor that makes you wonder how in the hell you ever lived without a quality bong.
In the world of glass bongs and water pipes, EHLE is the byword for ‘quality’. You can purchase its range of bongs on the EHLE Glass official website, which should translate from German to English automatically. Once you hold an EHLE Glass bong, you’ll know you’ve made the right decision, and the high-quality performance only confirms it.
4 – Grace Glass
Also known as GG, Grass Glass bongs are widely sought after and the Amsterdam-based company has been in operation since 2010. At present, it has more than 300 products and they are all available directly from the firm’s warehouse.
Since its formation, GG has become one of the glass paraphernalia market leaders and because of its location in the “very liberal” city of Amsterdam, the company continues to have its finger on the pulse in the world of weed and bongs.
GG offers an immense number of products including water pipes, ash catchers, dab rigs and dab tools, and you can buy a Grace Glass bong with or without a percolator. As well as upgrading old designs, the company is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the industry, and is always looking to bring new concepts to the market.
Our Grace Glass review will focus on its Vapor Cane bong, which is straight, elegant piece that’s designed for use with oils, dry herbs, or concentrates. It comes with two honeycomb disc percolators, a fixed downstem with an 18.8mm male joint, a turbine disc percolator, a glass nail, a female vapor dome, and a removable 18.8mm female herb bowl complete with roll stoppers.
The honeycomb disc is responsible for breaking the smoke into a whole lot of bubbles, and as a result, the smoke is filtered and cooled as it travels up the tube. Meanwhile, the turbine disc’s blades are created at a specific angle to turn the water into a kind of vortex, which to be honest is amazing to witness (and not to mention it offers phenomenal flavor).
The honeycomb disc on top forces the vapor through the tiny holes, which provide additional filtration. In the end, I was blown away by the cleanness and coolness of the hit.
The Cane GG Vapor bong is 17.3 inches high and made from 5mm thick borosilicate glass, and you can choose to keep it simple by opting for the clear glass version, or you can treat yourself by going with one of the versions containing colored accents.
There is no doubt about it – Grace Glass is one of the finest sellers of glass paraphernalia on the market. While you should always expect to pay for premium quality bongs, most of the GG range is available for less than $150, with some excellent items on sale for under $100. Aside from the Vapor bong, my favorite GG piece is the Spiral Perc Bong.
Once again, you see the spiraling helix work its magic, which is mesmerizing. It draws in smoke as you hit it, and both of the helices funnel towards the top of the bong. As you begin your session, the bong’s top half fills up with smoke. If you love artistic looking bongs, check out the Grace Glass limited edition range for the brand’s most beautifully crafted pieces.
5 – Mountain Jam Glass Company
Mountain Jam Glass is one of the oldest companies on this list, as it was founded in 2000. It operates out of Eugene, Oregon, and its website proudly states that all of the company’s glass is made right there in the city. Described as a ‘glass blowers collective’, the Mountain Jam Glass company creates uniquely designed bongs, with every individual pipe made by a specific artist – all of whom are master glass blowers and work in their own space.
The artists are responsible for their own production, which probably explains why the company produces so many remarkable looking products. Mountain Jam Glass is happy to sacrifice volume for quality, and it has become an extremely popular and well-respected brand in the industry. It is also dedicated to providing great customer service, and is adamant that community and sustainability are prominent in its list of core values.
Interestingly, the first pipe ever created was made in Eugene by a man named Bob Snodgrass. The site did not say whether this legendary lampworker has contributed anything to the company, but such is Eugene’s reputation for glass blowing that many of the best glass artists in the United States travel there to perfect their art. (And many of them end up making pieces for the Mountain Jam Glass company).
One of my favorite pieces from the company is the Mountain Jam Glass Hammer Pipe, which features some mind blowing inside-out reversal work (did I tell you that it produced unique items!?) The Glass Hammer is a stunningly crafted piece with reversal sections at various points on the pipe (if you didn’t know, the ‘reversal glass technique’ involves creating individual color lines which all arrive at a point in the middle of the glass. The end result is a marvelous and unique design that you won’t find anywhere else).
Moreover, the teardrop-shaped mouthpiece is a joy to use and the appendage on the right side of the bowl offers superb grip, which is a necessity during a heavy session! The carb hole is on the left side of the bowl, and the quality and flavor produced by this pipe are truly second-to-none.
Like it or not, Mountain Jam Glass pipes are not cheap – nor would you expect them to be given the level of craftsmanship involved. For instance, its Black Diamond Stardust Bubbler will cost over $200. At eight inches tall, it is pretty small but it does provide you with a smooth and easy hit. If you’re intent on creating a bong collection to remember, you have to include this company on your shortlist of potential investments.
6 – Roor
This is a company that has become synonymous with quality, and it’s no secret that Roor bongs are among the most sought after in the industry. Given the hype over Roor pipes and other products, it is hardly a surprise that the brand has become a target for copycats hoping to cash in on the German organization’s hard work and creative engineering.
If you’re worried about owning an “imposter,” you can check to see if you have a genuine Roor glass bong by searching for the black pendant which is attached to every piece. On this pendant, you’ll find the individual bubble tag of the piece, which is a 3D pattern of bubbles that “fraudsters” are unable to replicate. Scan the QR Code on the pendant, or enter the ID of your pipe on the official website to verify its identity.
All of the Roor collection is manufactured in Germany by Martin Birzle and his team of glass blowing artists. It seems likely that the company name is a play on the word ‘Rohr,’ which is German for ‘pipe’. The Roor range is made from high-quality borosilicate glass which ranges from 2-7mm thick; the latter pieces being the heavier and more durable ones.
The Roor Blue Series 100 mL bong looks a bit like a test tube because it is a long cylinder, but it does include a hexagonal base for added stability and a sliding funnel bowl with a non-diffuser downstem and a colored glass roll stopper. There is no mistaking the brand, because the Roor logo is proudly displayed in blue. There is also a 3-point Roor Glass screen that comes free with every purchase.
The Roor Little Sista bong is 35 cm tall and is made with 3.2mm high-grade glass. The piece’s bi-stable joints are 6mm thick, and they are claimed to have approximately 40% additional glass which makes them extremely durable. As always, the Roor logo is prominent although in this case, it is in white with a red outline. It is incredibly easy to use and ideal for beginners, even though the flavor produced is all but guaranteed to be appreciated by connoisseurs.
Few manufacturers in the world can match a Roor bong for quality, durability and aesthetics. It is an innovative organization; its artists were the first to create high-end pipes with diffusers and ice notches, for example, and best of all, you can purchase one of its bongs for under $100.
7 – Snoop Dogg Bong Brand Review
Known as the Grandfather of Kush (and a variety of other nicknames), it is hardly a shock that Snoop Dogg has released his own range of glass bongs. The Snoop Dogg Pounds range features five different water pipes, each of which has a specific use. For example, one of the pipes can be used for dry herb while another is perfect for concentrate oils and dabs.
The Spaceship is the smallest member of the Snoop Dogg Pounds glass family, and is just 6.5 inches high. It is one of the most compact pipes around, and is designed for dabbing. It includes two different nail types: A bubble dome & nail, and a quartz bucket. It also includes a small Inline ruffle percolator, which does an outstanding job of filtering and cleaning the smoke so only the smoothest hits are available.
The range also includes the Mothership, but I was more impressed by the Battleship as this all-in-one dry herb bong can also function as a dab rig. It includes a fixed downstem with a 14.5mm male joint and numerous accessories such as a dry herb bowl, a vapor dome with a glass concentrate nail, a glass dab tool, and a quartz concentrate bucket (you can switch from dry herb to concentrate by changing the bowl).
The Battleship is designed with a perforated honeycomb disc, which is sandwiched between a pair of tornado percolator discs found in the straight body of the bong. The trio of discs combines their power to filter the smoke as it travels through the vast array of holes and slits, and the result is cool and filtered smoke by the time it reaches your lips, with a flavorful and soothing hit. I also enjoyed watching the filtering process, because it is like watching a master at work – especially after your cerebral buzz starts to settle itself in.
I was also impressed by the flared mouthpiece which is ideally angled for ease of use and comfort; it also ensures you’re not too close to the nail. Even the bong’s subtle accents are something to behold, as the red glass flares bring everything to life. Moreover, the thick and sturdy base makes sure that the pipe feels secure and steady when you set it down for long, steady rips.
To be clear, the Pounds range by Snoop Dogg is one of the most expensive brands on the market. The Battleship costs $280, for example, but in our opinion it is money well spent. The quality of the build is exceptional, and it produces hits that quite frankly are out of this world. It is no surprise, though, because we would never expect Snoop Dogg to put his name on anything other than the very best.
8 – Tsunami Glass
Tsunami glass bongs are made by the Tsunami Vapor Company, which is located in Troy, Michigan. The organization was founded in 2011 in a bid to get involved in the burgeoning electronic cigarette market, and within a year, they had expanded and begun selling numerous vaporizer models, e-liquids and Tsunami glass pipes.
While the company has produced a huge range of outstanding products, we’re going to focus on its Quadruple Rocket bong. This Tsunami glass bong is one of the brand’s top sellers, and comes in five different accents – all of which are aesthetically pleasing. The bong is made with premium grade borosilicate glass with a reinforced foot to prevent you from shattering the product if you accidentally bang it too hard on the table.
The bong gets its name from the four percolators it possesses, all of which are shaped like rockets. The existence of four percs means users are treated to some of the silkiest smoke they’ll ever inhale. Moreover, the filtration system is a masterpiece as it cools the vapor down to a level that few bongs can match. It is probably not the best bong for newbies, though, as the vapor it produces is so smooth that you sometimes don’t even realize you’re inhaling anything – bad news for people with a low tolerance level!
At just over 12 inches tall, this isn’t the largest bong you’ll find, and design-wise it genuinely looks like a microscope. I was pleased, however, to discover that this Tsunami glass pipe was relatively easy to clean. (Though to be clear you’ll need to use alcohol and pipe cleaners to get the job done correctly. It isn’t nearly as difficult to clean as many of its rivals, even if the fixed downstem means it is a bit of a challenge. Overall, though, it shouldn’t prove too frustrating).
The Quadruple Rocket is an extremely attractive kit and at $160, it is probably in the mid-range price-wise for a bong. Aside from the extra thick durable glass and delightful accents, this bong offers the kind of hits that experienced users dream of at night. The percolator is as innovative as it gets, and the vapor quality and flavor are out of this world!
It seems odd that an e-cigarette producer would take the unusual step of becoming a glass water pipe manufacturer, but Tsunami has made the transition seamlessly. Its growing collection includes a variety of intricate glassware designed to provide you with the smoothest rips imaginable. You can choose its bongs in beautifully clear glass, or opt for one of its gorgeous accented pieces. Either way, you’re getting a bong you will be proud to call your own.
9 – Toro Bong
Every Toro Glass bong you see is created with the input of JP Toro, the founder of the company and one of the finest scientific glass artists on Earth. He is known for the attention to detail in every one of his products, and he continues to produce unmatched quality from his HQ in upstate New York.
Although JP likes to frequent Instagram, you can find out the best information about him and his products on the Toro Glass website. The Toro Full Size 7 to 13 Arm bong is arguably his finest creation, and was awarded the coveted #1 spot on the High Times list of 10 best bongs for 2017.
Even by the standards of the Toro glass bongs for sale, this version is remarkable. It is made from American scientific glass in New York, and it includes a stemless design. The bong has a Micro 7 Arm Tree Perc and a Reinforced Micro 13 Arm Tree Perc, which includes a green dome top. It uses a 14mm female slide joint, and the kit comes with a 14mm male clear glass ice pinch slide. It is 10.5 inches tall ,which means it is not the largest bong around, but man is it one of the best!
As per usual, the unique Toro design means the 7 to 13 Arm bong is a collectible piece. However, it is the quality of the vapor produced that makes this piece stand out. The smoke gets filtered through the water twice via the tree arm percolators, and the result is a smooth as hell hit. It’s so good that one rip is seriously never enough. Also, the straight tube design means it is durable enough to survive a couple of bumps (and even if the base does gets chipped, it only affects the aesthetics).
About the only downside of the Toro 7 to 13 Arm Bong is the size of the tube; you’ll need a hell of a lung capacity to clear everything in a single hit — although it is worth trying! Also, it isn’t that easy to clean; you’ll need a decent amount of liquid cleaner.
Toro Glass doesn’t produce mediocre bongs, and the 7 to 13 Arm version is living proof of that fact. Also, when you’re browsing around for a Toro bong for sale, please note that they are among the most expensive in the industry. The bong we reviewed will cost you around $800 for example, so it is definitely NOT for casual users.
10 – Medicali Glass
Although there have been Medicali glass items for sale for at least a decade, relatively little is known about the brand. What we do know is that the company creates its Medicali glass bongs using German borosilicate glass, and all pieces are created in-house. One of its most popular products is the 12 Arm Bong.
As you can guess from the name, this Medicali glass bubbler is a 12-arm tree perc. It does an excellent job of breaking down the smoke and cooling the vapors produced by your dry herbs, and the glass slide bowl is 18.8mm and contains a useful handle.
Also, with no carb hole to worry about, it is obvious that the bong bubbles smooth and clean. Its wide and stable base is handy for clumsy users, and the smooth layback tube ensures you enjoy comfortable sessions. At $379, though, it is a hell of an expensive piece, but worth investing in if you want to treat yourself.
Not all Medicali glass bongs have high prices, though – the five-inch-long Layback Bubbler, for example, costs less than $60. It is a portable device that is simple to use and provides excellent hits for the price. The 18-inch straight tube bong with ice catcher is another simple yet effective offering from the brand, and it is a straight piece design with no percolator (yet still rewards with ultra smooth hits). Moreover, the four-inch base means it is a durable piece and for $140, it is a bargain.
The six-inch pyramid sidecar bong uses a Honeycomb percolator and is one of the most uniquely designed pieces we have seen. The angled neck means you can smoke it from any position on the sofa, and the bubbler’s shape and size means it is easy to hold in your hands. Moreover, the large percolator guarantees smooth pulls every time, and at $170, it is value for the money!
Verdict: 8 /10
Although there are no Medicali glass bong options near the top of this list, the brand still warrants consideration because of the quality and smoothness of pulls with every one of its products. As well as selling straight bongs and downstems, Medicali creates a litany of goodies including beakers, rigs and accessories such as carb caps. It truly is a one-stop shop for weed and bong lovers everywhere.
11 – MGW Glass
If you see MGW Glass for sale, bear in mind that the company’s real name is Manifest Glassworks. The brand is owned and operated by professional glassblowers, with an emphasis on maintaining minimal corporate interference. All of its pieces are made by American artisans in the United States, with the “home base” in New York.
The 26-inch stemless triple chamber version is no doubt one of the best MGW Glass bongs on the market. First and foremost, though, we only recommend this bong for experienced users because if you try to snap a whole bowl, it will take its toll!
The tube is remarkably easy to fill, and also to empty. Simply fill the bottom until it can’t hold any more water, and pull in to fill up the percolators. Once you drain the excess in the bottom, you should be ready to go without needing to adjust the percs.
The water drains out easily from the bottom and when in doubt, pour the rest out of the top! The arms of the bong are durable and well-crafted, and there is a sturdy connection between them and the cap. Also, as the arms are frosted, you can clean them relatively easily by using salt and alcohol.
I was genuinely shocked by how easy the very first rip on the MGW Glass bong was. I was able to go through an entire bowl in a single go, without any issues. The diffuser cap is uniquely designed with 14 slits around the base, which forces water up due to the suction of air through the cap (the water remains in the cap for the entire hit, while it is constantly diffusing through the slits). When you fill the water levels correctly, there is no danger of resistance as you take a rip.
MGW Glass water pipes are in hot demand, and the quality of the triple chamber bong makes it easy to see why. With smooth and easy hits, enormous joints, multiple arms and a sturdy base, it is one of the finest bongs on the market. All MGW units are extremely well designed and while they don’t all offer hits as smooth as the triple chamber, there are several bongs in the MGW stable that’ll be well worth your time and money.
12 – Mobius Glass
The Mobius Glass bongs on sale are made from durable glass, and the company is known for creating particularly beautiful looking pieces. The Micro Matrix 2 is an upgrade of a popular bong, and its scientific styling is a real feast for the eyes. By the standards of a bubbler, the Matrix 2 is heavily diffused and it is one solid piece.
The glass bowl is 18mm, which is a fairly uncommon size. Therefore, even if you have several bowls from other bongs, none of them will be likely to fit if the Matrix’s bowl breaks. All of the pieces slide into place perfectly, which is further proof that this is an exceptionally designed bong.
The quality of smoke produced by the Mobius Glass Matrix 2 is a tad disappointing, though. It is by no means ‘poor,’ but I was expecting better from such a high-quality company. The level of diffusion produced is fairly average, but the smoke it produced was nice and cool, so inhaling was a treat.
Alas, the Matrix 2 is a real pain to get clean! There are a fair number of holes, slots and divots to contend with, and so many places where sticky resin can find a home. As nice as the piece looks when clean, it looks awful when dirty so you are going to want to clean it after every single use. I also recommend soaking it in alcohol for a few days if you’re not planning to be using it.
Despite the flaws with the Matrix 2, it is still worth opening your wallet if/when you see some Mobius Glass bongs for sale. They are well-made pieces created with premium-grade glass, and the company ensures that its pieces have sturdy bases. Also, rest assured that not all of Mobius’ bongs are as hard to clean as the Matrix 2!
Final Thoughts About the Bongs Market
When you see glass bongs for sale, it is worth investing in one because it will reward you with a milder, richer, and cooler smoke than any other weed device. Even cheap glass bongs intensify the marijuana smoking experience, but we believe you should follow these practices to find the best bongs – and also to get the most out of one that you might currently own:
- Always inspect the glass for defects and hairline cracks. Pay special attention to areas next to spirals and joints.
- Don’t automatically go for the largest bong you can find. You will find large bongs for cheap but if they are acrylic bongs, you will have mediocre sessions. Even expensive glass bongs with lots of parts and accessories are not necessarily your best option. First, there is a greater chance of complex pieces breaking and second, such bongs tend to create more pull as you drag, so it becomes harder to clear the tube.
- Clean your bong as soon as you bring it home from the store, or if you buy bongs online, as soon as it arrives in the mail. This is especially true with the more expensive pieces, as they generally are harder to sell and spend more time gathering dust and absorbing particles that you aren’t going to want to be inhaling.
- While you don’t have to clean your bong after every session, you will enjoy a better experience when you do – and when you use fresh, clean water. Also, avoid overfilling the water chamber because it could cause the liquid to shoot up the stem, potentially ruining your herb and/or splashing into your face.
- Never blow down into a bong’s tube. By doing this, you force the water out of the carb and up the downstem. You will either blow the herb out of the bowl, or completely soak it.
- Don’t be afraid to experiment! Thousands of users have added various liquids to the bottom of the chamber to try and influence the smoke flavor. I recommend trying citric juices or herbal teas. Dairy and liquor are bad ideas because the THC in your weed is absorbed by alcohol and fats. Carbonated and sugar-laden drinks attract insects (which stick to the sides of your bong), so unless you enjoy inhaling bugs, this is also not recommended.
- The best way to use your bong is to pack the herb in the bowl tightly and put your lips inside the top of the tube, which will ideally form a tight seal. Cover the carb with your thumb (if applicable), and light the corner of the bowl. Inhale slowly but surely until the water starts bubbling and the tube is filled with smoke. Next, uncover the carb/pull out the sliding downstem while sucking in as much vapor as possible. Trap any remaining smoke by placing your hand on the mouthpiece, and go again when you’re ready.
