Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the hottest topics in Indiana at the moment, with ongoing disputes over the legality of cannabis and CBD oil. With policymakers struggling to come to a decision on the therapeutic compound, many residents of the state are left in disarray over what is – and isn’t – legal!

As we are all aware, CBD has largely overshadowed THC in recent years as the most discussed cannabinoid of the marijuana plant. But, thanks to cannabis enthusiasts and researchers within the field, cannabidiol is now so well-researched that its findings have led numerous states to change their laws in regards to CBD.

In this article, we are going to take a look at the reasons behind CBD oil’s “rise to fame,” and how you can obtain it if you live in Indiana!

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD is one of the compounds found in the cannabis plant. It is the non-psychoactive relative of THC and many other helpful cannabinoids. Unlike THC, CBD will not produce a “high” in the user, which makes it a favorable form of medicine to most patients. It is also for this reason that CBD has become so sought after as a therapeutic treatment for so many enervating conditions.

CBD has been shown in published studies to contribute so many different benefits to the human body, including its role as an:

• Antibacterial
• Neuro-protective
• Anti-inflammatory
• Muscle relaxant
• Relieves anxiety
• Anti-emetic
• Relieves pain

And these are just a few of the well-known properties of CBD. Thanks to CBD, hundreds of thousands of patients are able to take control of their conditions with little to no adverse side effects.

Over the last couple of years, there has been a great deal of money put into the scientific research of CBD. With there being such a huge stigma around the marijuana plant, it is paramount to have sound evidence that not all compounds produced by the plant cause the same results – especially as most people associate the cannabis plant with the well-known THC high.

As a result of this research, there have been groundbreaking findings and progression made over recent years. This has led to speculation that cannabidiol may be a viable treatment for a number of conditions, including symptoms relating to:

• Cancer
• Anxiety
Depression
• AIDS/HIV
• Epilepsy
• Chronic Pain
• IBD
• IBS
• Chron’s Disease
• Glaucoma

This is just a sample of conditions, however – there are many more in which CBD has been shown to provide potential therapy. The scale and variety of diseases go to highlight just how versatile of a treatment CBD can be, all while being 100% natural and coming with little to no side effects!

How does CBD Oil work?

The human body is an amazing thing! Many people don’t know that the body produces its own cannabinoids, and that this is done through the endocannabinoid system, or ECS. The ECS releases cannabinoids that connect to receptors within our body, of which there are two that are responsible for totally different things:

CB1 receptor: Found throughout the body, but mostly located in the brain and responsible for things such as:

• Movement
• Thoughts
• Feelings
• Memories
• Appetite
• Emotions
• Mood

CB2 receptor: These receptors are found mostly in body tissue and the immune system, and are believed to help regulate things like:

  • Immune response
  • Inflammation
  • Pain

When CBD is consumed, it interacts with our body’s ECS to encourage the production of an increased number of natural cannabinoids! It is for this reason that CBD is believed to have such an impressive impact on so many aspects of our health.

CBD Oil in Indiana: What do you Need to Know?

While Indiana’s CBD laws leave a lot to be desired, there are currently talks to determine whether the compound should be legal for all patients to consume. It is progress, but the state is quite behind many other US states, many of which have decided to open their arms to the benefits of the marijuana plant!

As of now, Indiana has a pretty confusing stance on the whole topic, but don’t despair – there are still ways and means of legally obtaining CBD if you are an Indiana resident!

CBD Oil derived from hemp (rather than marijuana), for example, is legal in all 50 states. While there is a difference between the two, both come from the Cannabis sativa L plant and contain an array of health benefits. Unlike CBD from marijuana, CBD from hemp contains extremely small amounts of THC, and therefore will not get you high. It is for this reason that CBD derived from hemp is legal across America.

In Indiana, you can use CBD oil from hemp as per House Bill 1214, which states that CBD oil containing no more than 0.3% THC and at least 5% CBD is legal to consume. While this is the case for specific CBD oils derived from hemp, laws around CBD oil from marijuana are more complicated. House Bill 1148, for instance, declares that CBD is legal to use only for the relief of “treatment resistant” epilepsy.

While this is great for epilepsy sufferers, it leaves patients of other terminal illnesses or conditions with little comfort.

It is also important to note that while CBD oil laws in Indiana restrict the purchasing of the cannabinoid in the state, it is perfectly legal to purchase CBD hemp products online, and there are plenty of reputable websites that can deliver through this option!

Final Thoughts About CBD oil in Indiana

Certainly not one of the most straightforward states when it comes to CBD oil, Indiana is holding back when it comes to the legalization of a cannabinoid that many believe provides such a safe and reliable therapeutic service. With discussions still ongoing, we suspect that there will be many more changes before a final (and hopefully positive) decision is settled on!

With support behind CBD being garnered from a variety of respected individuals, we think it is only a matter of time before they join the list of states that value CBD and all it can do!
