Most people think that growing a marijuana plant is a piece of cake. Well, it’s not rocket science, but you do have to know the basics. You’ll probably mess up your first few plants, but once you’ve successfully turned your seeds into a full grown flower, growing your next plants will be a breeze.

While some of these mistakes might seem obvious to the experienced grower, most new growers will make them. Here are the top 5 mistakes 99% of growers make:

1) Using the Wrong Soil

You know how many times we’ve seen new growers take soil from their garden, put it in a pot, plant the seeds and hope for the best? C’mon….

The soil that you use is the foundation for any good plant. It’s where your flower is going to plant its roots. Just as you wouldn’t want to live in a dump, neither does your plant. Skimping out on soil could lead to insect infestation or worse, a failed crop. Invest in new quality soil, and make sure you’re maintaining a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5 since cannabis doesn’t do well in highly acidic soil.

2) More Nutrients Does Not Mean More Buds

Many new growers think that they need to use tons of nutrients. They think that the more nutrients used, the more potent their plant is going to be. This is far from the truth. As a matter of fact, you don’t need to know a lot about nutrients or even use them if you’re growing your plants in a healthy environment. You can simply use basic nutrients, without any special supplements whatsoever.

3) Light is the Most Important

Unfortunately, not everyone lives in an environment like Jamaica and can’t maximize the potential of their plants with the help of the Sun. This means that if you really want to get the best yields indoors, you MUST invest in the best lighting system. And no…a bedside lamp will not do the job!

4) Make Sure Your Plant Can Breathe

Airflow is one of the most important things, especially when growing indoors. Many growers invest in lights, seeds, and nutrients, but then grow their plants in a closet. Are you serious! Can YOU imagine sitting in your cupboard all day long?

Your plant needs consistent airflow, otherwise, you will come across something known as White Powdery Mold. It will look as if someone has dropped talcum powder on your plant and this white power, will ruin your plant.

5) Know the Potential of Your Seeds

So you’ve finally decided that you want to grow a plant. You run to your local dispensary or shop and pick up a few seeds. You may even purchase them online. You get home and plant them. Excited is an understatement!

Every day you nurture your plant, water it and wait anxiously for those sweet trichomes to appear. But, nothing happens… Then you find out that you’ve bought an Indica Plant that doesn’t grow properly in the type of climate you reside in, where originally you wanted a Sativa strain.

Before you rush out, make sure you know what strains grow best indoors where you live and what type of environment you need to maximize the potential of your plant.

Make sure you buy seeds from a reputable source and last but not least – always consult with them before buying.
