5 Creative Ways to Cough Less When Smoking Weed

There is no doubt about it that smoking cannabis is much better than smoking tobacco or drinking alcohol, but if you are coughing your lungs out, you might be doing more harm than good.

According to Dr. Donals Tashkin, “Chronic cough (often accompanied by increased production of phlegm and wheezing, but not shortness of breath) occurs in over approximately 25 percent of habitual smokers of marijuana and resolves soon after cessation of marijuana use, provided that the marijuana smoker does not also smoke tobacco.”

Smoking cannabis should be a pleasurable experience, so if that describes you, here are;

5 creative ways to cough less when taking in weed.

1) Add some H2O to the Experience

In general, the closer your mouth gets to the burning weed, the more you are going to cough. One solution is to use a bong. Bongs tend to cool down the smoke and the water in the bong makes the smoke less harsh and dry. For an extra-soothing experience, try using warm water in the chamber.

2) Take Smaller Intakes

Your lungs might not be cut out for those deep puffs. If you are a noobie, then this will often happen, you’ll take a long deep hit and then cough it out. If you are new to smoking marijuana try to take smaller hits and relax between hits.

3) Don’t Smoke it, Eat it

Cannabis Edibles

Most people think that in order to make the most out of their weed you have to smoke this stuff. This is wrong! Edibles, unlike vapes and joints, also introduce THC to the body through the gastrointestinal tract. This is med talk for the place where your liver process the stuff before it enters into your bloodstream. Another benefit of eating your weed is that some edibles taste DELICIOUS.

4) Get High-Quality Weed

Go for the good stuff! Next time you are down at your local dispensary, try to ask your bud-tender about the cultivation process. How the weed is stored and how long has it been sitting around. Any mold or mildew will ruin your experience. It’s like eating stale food. Splurge for the quality stuff that will provide better quality smoke.

5) Hydrate

Drink Water Smoke Weed

Depending on the type of weed you are smoking, your lungs and throat can get irritated. Always have a nice cool glass of H20 on hand to sip after a take. You might want to hydrate before you light up. Staying hydrated will also help if you ingest too much

    Hydration is the key

Yes, I agree with you for the above tips, just the point number two of taking small puffs does not work well. I am used to inhaling long puffs of the smoke, so do not really like the idea of baby puffs. But yes, have started drinking water before and using a bong that has really solved the problem for me.

  2. D.C. Kannabosm

I have developed the “canna-cough”. It seems very predictable. First flower of the day gives me a rather harsh post smoke (1-2 mins later) cough. Milder cough the rest of the day when I puff but much less but still nasty for 2-5 minutes. I have tried water between inhale and exhale, mouth to lungs, smoking in a spoon, rolled or with a water pipe, same resulted. The ONLY thing that helps is a pause for a day or so & smaller hits. I wish there was a way to stop this, it ruins my intended outcome which is stress & pain relief.

Smoking marijuana is not a good experience for me so I eat it. And because the edibles taste great, I prefer them instead of smoking weed as it enters the bloodstream.
